The first phase of the 2024 Autumn Auction of Kaipai International [Modern and Contemporary Art Special] will be previewed on site from November 14 to November 16, and the auction will be held at 19:30 on November 16. The preview and auction will be held in the banquet hall on the second floor of the Bulgari Hotel Beijing. In recent years, works on paper have attracted more and more attention in the global art market. Works on paper allow us to see the artist's moment of inspiration more directly, as well as the ease with which the artist writes freely. Works on paper have both artistic and documentary value. In the contemporary art market, the "contemporary" appearance of paper art is also attracting the attention of collectors.

Since the 20th century, paper works have gradually become an important medium for artists to freely explore and create. While Chinese art pioneers went abroad to improve Western skills, they also demonstrated their integration of Chinese and Western paintings in their paper works. Landscape language is the language of emotion, and it communicates with the world alone. "Landscape is your mirror" is a way of expressing emotions and self-reflection. This autumn auction specially planned "Landscape is your mirror: landscape, mountains and rivers, and nature". Through artists of different generations such as Ni Yide, Lu Sibai, Wu Guanzhong, Liu Wei, Huang Yuxing, Kang Haitao, Tu Hongtao, Xiao Jiang, Huang Liang, Xu Hongxiang, and Liu Haichen, we try to present the landscape that is closely related to the times or the artist's personal spiritual world.

"Hidden Reality: Painting and Conceptual Expression" focuses on works that use painting as a medium but transcend the boundaries of traditional visual narratives. Through their own experiences and unique ideas, artists skillfully weave seemingly ordinary but profound images on canvas. In a "hidden" way, they reveal the real emotions and social issues hidden under the trivialities of daily life, challenge the cognitive boundaries of the viewer, and inspire deep thinking and resonance.

In the Chinese art tradition, there is a "freehand" that is completely different from the Western classical realism art system, and it has certain similarities with the "pure spirit" expressed in abstract art. When we discuss Chinese abstract art, while taking Western abstract art as a reference, we must also see that Chinese abstract art is different from the conditions and development logic of Western abstract art. The 2024 autumn auction will bring you wonderful works by Ding Yi, Wang Guangle, Liu Wei, Cai Lei, and Ju Ting. At the same time, this season will also present the representative works of Chiharu Shiota, a representative artist born in the 1970s who is active around the world, revealing the dialogue between the artist and his own undisguised and naked soul.

Narrative has always been a time-honored theme of exploration in artistic creation. Unlike the text medium’s insistence on the integrity of the story, painting or sculpture is more like a slice, compressing an ongoing story into a time node, thus giving the audience an interesting experience of divergent imagination and reinterpretation.

The "A Story" unit brings together works of art from modern to contemporary times, from different ages and generations, using frank and intuitive visual expressions to explore the deep connection between space and memory, and tell stories of people in different eras. Kaipai will focus on the multiple possibilities of narrative in paintings, while focusing on the life situations of artists hidden behind their creations.

Since the launch of "Wave I" in the spring of 2023, Kaipai has been committed to exploring and presenting the unique talents and creative styles of young artists. Each "Wave" special topic is an in-depth exploration and tribute to the new forces in the art circle. This "Wave IV" not only continues the original intention of the past three issues, but also expands the artistic vision in a broader dimension, focusing on the new faces of young creators emerging at the moment.

In this section, we present artists born in the 1990s, such as Zhang Zipiao, Zhang Ji, Fang Yuan, Sun Yidian, and Sarah Kosiska. Most of them have studied abroad and present the art world in their eyes with a more international vision and creative logic. Artist Li Heidi, born in 1997, has just been announced to be represented by Pace Gallery. Her work "Pupa Transformed into Butterfly" presents a layered and interlaced composition, sporadic bursts of light, and translucent figures and biological forms looming at different times. Its colors and images often come from dreams, reflecting the artist's subconscious.

At the same time, this section also displays the works of artists such as Pu Yingwei, Fan Yangzong, Wang Yi, Bian Shaozhi and Hao Zecheng who have just entered the secondary market in the past two years. From delicate brushstrokes to bold and avant-garde compositions, from tributes to traditions to imaginations of the future, each work becomes a journey of the artist's concept. This autumn auction launched the "Details are Beauty" special topic, bringing 19 small and beautiful, small and special exquisite works from artists from different countries and generations, trying to show the great charm hidden under the small canvas.
