Chinese Painting and Calligraphy

This season, the world is looking for Chinese calligraphy and painting treasures, and the scale is quite impressive. Chinese calligraphy and painting will present more than 600 exquisite works, divided into two special sessions, "Visualization: Chinese calligraphy and painting treasures from all over the world" (I) and (II).

"Visualization (I)" includes 18 single important private collections, such as Hu Huichun's "Weixinxuan" collection, "Shangding Bookstore" Ma's father and son collection, National Taiwan University Professor Yu Changjing's collection of Pu Ru's calligraphy and paintings, etc. Each group of collections has its own strengths and style, like a hundred rivers converging into the sea.

"Contemplation (II)" also covers ancient and modern calligraphy and paintings from a rich and diverse range of sources, such as Zhang Congyu's "Muyanzhai" treasures, "Eryi Caotang" collections, important private collections in Southeast Asia, etc. It can be said that it is a dazzling array of scattered treasures.

This rare horizontal painting of Mount Hua by Zhang Daqian was created in 1963 and presented to the famous collector Hu Huichun. It is painted on the imitation Song Dynasty ribbed paper made by Dafengtang. The inscription was made by Hu Huichun (1910-1993), whose name was Renmu, courtesy name Huichun, and pseudonym Weicun. He was a great collector and was known as "Zhandelou". Daqian often gave him fine works as a gift. In the spring of 1963, after Daqian's exhibition in Singapore, he stayed in Hong Kong for a while and reunited with his relatives and old friends. It happened to be the time for the newly established "Minqiu Jingshe" gathering, where he met with important collectors in Hong Kong such as Hu Huichun. It was during this meeting that Zhang Daqian had the opportunity to see the Song Dynasty rubbings of Mount Hua in Hu Huichun's collection, and learned that he signed his studio name "Xionghua Pavilion". Therefore, he borrowed the meaning of Lu Fangweng's poem "I am a general who conquers the west, and I first collect Mount Hua in my heart" and painted this picture of Mount Hua as a gift. It is very interesting and thoughtful. The mountains in the painting are painted and splashed with ink, and the texture of the mountains is presented through the natural flow of water and ink. At the bottom of the painting, before the ink dries, it is immediately smudged with azurite. The azurite and ink are integrated into one, which is a model of the painter's perfect fusion of early traditional landscape training and later splashing style. This work has been in the Hu family collection for more than half a century and is on display for the first time this season. It is worth appreciating.

This season we are honored to collect a group of rare calligraphy and paintings by Pu Ru, collected by Pu Ru's student Professor Yu Changjing, especially this Guanyin Bodhisattva, which is very rare. Pu Ru was a devout Buddhist and worshipped Guanyin with great piety. Before painting Guanyin, he would fast for several days, burn incense and worship, and then do it respectfully.

This work was painted in 1953. It depicts a boy worshipping Guanyin in line drawing. It is based on the theme of the boy Shancai visiting Guanyin in the Buddhist Avatamsaka Sutra. Guanyin stands on a dragon, holding a clean bottle and pouring clean water, which turns into several auspicious lotuses. In front of him, Shancai kneels on a lotus platform, clasping his hands together in worship, and a auspicious bird comes with a rosary. The whole work has smooth lines, clear and elegant, and full of ancient charm. According to the inscription, "Where can I find the wonderful golden face? Lingyan is the sound of the sea tide forever. Shancai can recognize every face, just like a baby's love for his mother. Yu Shengchang Jing asked me to write this to bless his mother. Pu Ru respectfully wrote it on the summer night of Guisi." It can be seen that he was moved by Mr. Changjing's sincere filial piety, so he gave this to pray for his mother.

Pan Tianshou's finger-ink painting is extremely rare. Fortunately, this season I have a giant work of finger-ink painting on eagle stone. This four-foot-long piece of paper was created at the turn of spring and summer in 1965. It can be regarded as a representative of the style of finger-ink art in his mature period. From the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s, Pan Tianshou's artistic creation was flourishing. Pan Tianshou produced important achievements in both art theory and art practice. It can be said that this was the most glorious period of Pan Tianshou's artistic career. His works became more majestic. He even established a school of his own with finger-ink painting. He sublimated finger-ink painting to a new level. This eagle stone has a composition like an architecture, a simple and primitive atmosphere and a vibrant image. The composition is strange and rugged, and the sense of volume formed by the "hardness, clumsiness, spicyness and astringency" of finger-ink painting is strange, domineering, mature and vigorous.

Shen Shichong, also known as Ziju, was a native of Huating in the late Ming Dynasty. He was good at painting landscapes, which were lush and moist, and he was a core member of the "Susong School". He once studied under Song Maojin, but his brushwork was far better than his teacher. After Dong Qichang became famous, he was tired of socializing and often asked Shen Shichong to write for him, which shows that his art was extraordinary.

This volume is on silk, with 16 pages in total. The colors are gorgeous, clear, ancient, and the hills and valleys are lush and green, with moist texture and color. The mountains are full of mist and fog everywhere. This kind of hazy scene is a characteristic of Jiangnan, and it is also Shen Shichong's unique strength. This volume has been carefully appraised by many experts and included in "Records of Chinese Ancient Calligraphy and Painting Appraisal", "Notes on Chinese Ancient Calligraphy and Painting Appraisal", and "Notes on Liu Jiuan's Calligraphy and Painting Appraisal Research". Therefore, it is extremely rare.

Black and Black by Yayoi KusamaFirst seen at auction, the museum-quality Supreme Black Net completed in 1961This is the only work in his life that boldly uses black, the oriental symbol of "sacredness", "transcendence" and "infinity", as the main color instead of contrasting colors. The work cleverly creates the expansion and contraction of space through the changes in the brightness and texture of the color in a single color. 《24.01.73》 is a Chinese abstract masterZao Wou-Ki’s important milestone work during his “return to China” in the 1970sThis is an artistic monument of his rebirth after he rediscovered Chinese ink painting at that time, returned to his Chinese homeland after an absence of 20 years, and returned to the origin of Chinese art.
The work uses the contrast of spaciousness and fullness to separate the upper and lower worlds. The works and his life's onlySix rare large-scale paintings featuring the symbolic achievement of the Industrial Revolution - the "skyscraper"When the artist created this work, he had just been married to his wife for a year, and their daughter was born that year. Classical furniture and crafts

In the autumn of 2024, China Guardian Hong Kong's Classical Furniture and Crafts Department has selected nearly 100 collections, including the traditional Ming and Qing furniture section, and especially the furniture and stationery collection of Xianyun Mountain Villa Xianquxuan. The collection has a clear source and a clear inheritance; there are also current market hotspots, continuing the success of the spring auction and continuing to launch Ding Wenfu's Niliuzhai Collection of Stones, showing the refinement and elegance of the life of literati in the past.

Hangers are used to place clothes, not hang them, as can be seen in ancient woodcuts. As living environments change, the practical function of hangers has gradually declined, and their artistic value has become more prominent.

This clothes hanger is made of huanghuali wood, with two horizontal wooden blocks carved out of the bottom as the base, and round columns planted on top, supported by standing teeth with carved dragon patterns. The middle sign has three openwork bands with dragons holding longevity patterns separated by two columns between the two horizontal beams, and a relief board with longevity patterns is installed below, with a clear theme. The top horizontal beam is the headrest, with round dragon heads at both ends, and hanging teeth with openwork dragon patterns between the headrest and the columns, which are elegant and winding. The columns and horizontal beams of this clothes hanger are all made of round wood, which forms a contrast between the complexity and simplicity of the carvings, and the carvings use openwork, round carving, relief, and intaglio carving techniques, with superb craftsmanship.

Rich families often use incense tables to display incense burners and tripods. Palaces and Buddhist temples also display incense tables, which are used to burn incense and place Buddhist instruments. In modern families, incense tables are used to display rare stones, potted plants, vases or incense burners.

This incense table is made of Huanghuali wood, which is thick and has a lustrous patina. The table is square, with a high waist, three curved legs, four feet, and a base. The table is inlaid with a single-board burl wood surface with standard lattice angle tenons, and the texture is brilliant. The upper middle part of the edge of the ice plate is recessed, and the tenons are visible. The waist is high, and the upper part of the four feet is exposed. The front tooth plate has a strong curve, a sharp point in the center, and no lines along the edges, which is simple and concise. The tooth bar is combined with a shoulder tenon and a graceful three-curved leg, extending down to the bottom and curling ball feet, and falls on the base. The whole style is solemn, with strong curves and a rigorous and smooth structure.

This is a box of Moutai produced in 1957. It is a box of five-star Moutai produced in 1957. There are 24 bottles in a box and they are perfectly preserved. The bottle is a white porcelain bottle with glaze on the bottle, which is both beautiful and leak-proof. The bottle is wrapped with cotton paper. It is the only box of Moutai produced in the 1950s that is known to exist. It is well preserved and has complete accessories. This box of Moutai has a special origin, because it comes from the remains of the Golden Dragon Restaurant owned by Mr. Zheng Hong, a patriotic overseas Chinese leader in Sydney in the last century.

This elephant liquor box is based on the elephant fountain that Napoleon I planned to build in the Bastille. Inside the liquor box, the gold-painted patterns on the Baccarat crystal wine glasses are very oriental. On the diamond-cut all-crystal gold-rimmed tray, there stands an elephant made of frosted crystal, symbolizing the Ganesha in Hinduism, and the wine box carried by the elephant can be disassembled at any time. The all-crystal elephant carries a finely carved gold wine box, and the Baccarat crystal wine utensils placed inside are painted with oriental patterns.
