About the Artist

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, the Portuguese-British visual artist studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, University of London. She is known for her storybook-inspired paintings and prints. The iconic image of a short, plump woman in a tutu, absorbed in a performance, is a defining image in her work. Her work encompasses abstraction and figuration, naiveté and realism, classical and cartoon-inspired, and includes etchings, acrylics, drawings, and pastels, reflecting on feminism and drawing on Portuguese folk themes.
