Second phase of Hangzhou auction site and transaction report
new record:
Many artists including Fu Meijun and Sun Daliang set new personal records;
Liu Weijian, Wang Yilong and many other artists set new records for the second highest price for an artist;
Zhao Yang, Ren Jing and many other artists set new records for the third highest price for an artist;
TOP1 of this transaction:
Huang Yuxing's "Pine Trees on the Stone Forest" was sold for 780,000 yuan, including commission of 897,000 yuan.
Huang Yuxing has repeatedly expressed his obsession with landscape painting. In an interview, he said, "I have had a landscape dream since I was a child. I am a Chinese painter. Painting mountains and water is our Chinese tradition." In addition to integrating the contemporary interpretation of traditional Chinese fine brushwork in terms of technique, he also fully reflects the influence of traditional culture on him in terms of subject matter.
The theme of "pine trees" has appeared frequently in Huang Yuxing's works since 2015. He has painted European-style pine trees, but finally chose Eastern, Chinese pine trees. The artist said that the pine trees in his paintings "are both scenery and people, and sometimes they appear anthropomorphic or objectified. I want to make landscape paintings more lively, and with pine trees, they will have more charm."
This is exactly the case with the work “Pine Trees on the Stone Forest”. In the artist’s signature hot fluorescent colors, negative-film-like white pine trees rise from the rocks, forming a towering posture that complements the deep blue-purple night background.
TOP2 of this transaction:
Ji Xin's "Dragonfly" was sold for 500,000 yuan, plus commission of 575,000 yuan.
In Ji Xin’s works, the aesthetics of traditional oriental painting and Western oil painting techniques are intertwined, presenting an examination of traditional Chinese art forms and fields, as well as his profound study of portraiture and light and shadow in Renaissance paintings.
The peaceful, serene and mysterious atmosphere of his work is not based on a response to a specific history or context, but rather on an understanding of the world and how to embed oneself in one’s surroundings.
TOP3 transactions in this session:
Zhang Enli's "Hair" was sold for 400,000 yuan, plus commission of 460,000 yuan.
Whether depicting human life activities or everyday things, for Zhang Enli, they are all fundamentally subordinate to one goal - that is, painting itself as a life activity. The figure series and head series created in 1994 are representative works of his early period.
Around 2006, Zhang Enli painted a number of figures with large heads. These figures are basically in bust poses, but from an extremely bird’s-eye view, with the broad heads occupying more than half of the picture. These figures may be people around Zhang Enli, and the artist depicts them in the form of portraits.
Other sold lots:
In addition to the top three most expensive lots, the auction also includes many masterpieces by contemporary artists, including Qin Qi, Ni Youyu, Wang Yi, Duan Jianyu, Ouyang Chun, Li Qing, Zhu Xinjian and other artists.
Several artists set new auction records
