A Boundless Realm, an Immeasurable Heart: The Echoes of Zeng Yang's "Amitabha's Infinite Life World—∞" If the essence of Buddhism could be encapsulated in a single word, it would be "Amitabha," representing immeasurable merit; and if its vastness could be symbolized by a single symbol, it would be the infinite "∞." This is precisely the thought and feeling of Zeng Yang, a contemporary artist born in Kunming in 1981.
As the 22nd generation descendant of the Western Xia Confucian master Wodaochong, he was immersed in Buddhist principles and aspired to the ultimate truth from a young age. Since 2013, he has embarked on a creative practice centered on "Amitabha's Infinite Life World" for over a decade, becoming the only contemporary artist whose main creative thread is the Buddhist Pure Land. His works are deeply rooted in scriptures such as the Infinite Life Sutra and the Amitabha Sutra, drawing inspiration from the magnificence of Sui and Tang dynasty sculptures and the grandeur of Dunhuang murals, transforming them into his own unique artistic language. His works have been exhibited over a hundred times in venues such as the Berlin Museum of Fine Arts, the Beijing M WOODS Museum, and the Pure Land Center for Contemporary Art, as well as in international exhibitions, and he is considered a true ancestor of the Pure Land tradition.
It equals the record held by China Guardian Hong Kong on October 8, 2025, for "Amitabha Infinite Life World - Mani Jewel" at HKD 228,000.
