About the Artist

1978 -

Annie Morris (b. 1978, UK) is an international contemporary artist currently living and working in London. Her sculptures are inspired by her personal experiences and art history. Large-scale sculptures using techniques such as stacked paint are her signature work, but she also works in drawing on paper, collage, and tapestry. Morris specializes in using simple tools and materials to create memorable works. Her stacked sculptures consist of spheres with irregularly ridged surfaces, precariously stacked into columns. The sculptures are often sculpted from plaster over a foam core, then painted with iridescent colors, or occasionally cast in bronze. These vibrant colors are hand-applied; the spheres, in shades of deep blue, yellow-green, and ochre, possess a rustic, rough texture that exudes a sense of reality yet imbued with a sense of fantasy and childlike playfulness.
