Le Siyang, Director of Art Basel Hong Kong
“Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 will be a grand celebration of Hong Kong’s status as an international cultural hub in Asia. Leveraging its unique advantages, such as tax-free policies, a long tradition of free port status, an efficient and convenient logistics system, a multilingual environment, and unparalleled connectivity, Hong Kong continues to solidify its position as a gateway to the region’s rich cultural diversity and vibrant art market. We are delighted to announce the launch of Art Space, Live Light, and Dialogue with Art Basel, all curated by a new team. We will also be proud to introduce the newly established Echoes of Art. While continuously expanding our platform’s content and network, we eagerly anticipate further deepening our relationships with local Hong Kong partners, those in the Asia-Pacific region, and globally. Most importantly, our mission is to inspire, foster learning, and unite the community. Art Basel Hong Kong has long transcended a traditional art fair; it has evolved into a vibrant ecosystem where creativity and culture are the core driving forces behind the art market’s prosperity, resilience, and enduring vitality.”

This year's fair will welcome 32 galleries participating for the first time, spanning Australia, Japan, South Korea, Greater China, Turkey, France, Georgia, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and the United States. Among the notable new entrants are A Lighthouse called Kanata (Tokyo), The Commercial (Sydney), Pilevneli (Istanbul), Uffner & Liu (New York), Galería Casado Santapau (Madrid), and 1 Mira Madrid / 2 Mira Archiv (Madrid). These galleries will inject fresh perspectives into the fair, further expanding its influence within a diverse artistic context.
Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 will debut the "Echoes of Art" section, a new area focusing on works created within the last five years. Ten curated booths will each showcase works by up to three artists, offering viewers insightful perspectives on the latest artistic practices and narratives. Highlights include Tiffany Chung's spice route embroidered map and Miler Lagos's sculpted book sculpture (presented by Max Estrella [Madrid]), and Natalia Załuska's immersive spatial installation (presented by Double Q Gallery [Hong Kong]).

Upholding its commitment to outstanding and innovative curatorial practices, Art Basel Hong Kong introduces a new collaborative curatorial model to its large-scale installation, sculpture, and performance art section, "Art Gathering Space." This year's fair brings together four senior curators based in Asia for the first time, led and guided by Makoto Kataoka, Director of the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, in collaboration with Tan Xuening, visual arts curator at M+ in Hong Kong; Aliya Swastikar, curator, researcher, and writer from Jakarta; and Takuichi Tokuyama, senior curator at the Mori Art Museum. They will leverage their unique artistic visions and profound cross-regional insights to jointly present this highly immersive art experience.

A citywide array of public programs are making a strong comeback, with numerous free public events, including "Live with Lights," "Dialogue with Art Basel," and events in collaboration with Hong Kong cultural institutions. These initiatives will deepen the fair's connection with the local community, allowing more citizens to engage with contemporary art and highlighting Hong Kong's prominent position as an international cultural hub.
As part of the fair's public program, "Live Light" will be curated by pioneering media artist and curator Ai-Lun Pau, whose practice has shaped Hong Kong's art and technology landscape. This will mark the first time Art Basel Hong Kong has featured an artist-curated "Live Light." Ai-Lun Pau is a visionary leader in the field of media arts, having co-founded Videotage, a groundbreaking non-profit platform for Asian media arts. She also founded the Microwave International New Media Arts Festival, which remains a leading platform for art and technology. With her forward-thinking insights, she will guide the curatorial direction of "Live Light," further deepening Art Basel Hong Kong's ongoing commitment to Asian moving images and time-based media.

One day of the "Dialogue with Art Basel" project will feature a series of dialogues hosted by Ms. Liu, Director of the Nusantara Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Jakarta, as guest curator. Ms. Liu is known for her broad interdisciplinary perspective, viewing contemporary art as an embodiment of the spirit of the times. She actively promotes interdisciplinary dialogue and public engagement through exhibitions, musical performances, and film projects. Her extensive experience at numerous leading art institutions, including the K11 Art Foundation (KAF) in Hong Kong, the OCAT Contemporary Art Terminal, and the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, will bring fresh perspectives and depth to the "Dialogue with Art Basel" project. The addition of Ms. Liu and Ms. Bao, along with the "Art Gathering Space" curatorial team, underscores the fair's unwavering commitment to fostering artistic leadership and promoting intercultural exchange.

Presented by UBS, Art Basel and M+ have collaborated for the fifth consecutive year to commission an artwork for the M+ facade. Starting March 23, 2026, Pakistani-American artist Shahzia Sikander's work, *Wandering in Territorial Waters*, will be presented in animated form on the exterior of the M+ building, showcasing her hand-painted watercolors and depicting the historical context of power, trade, and global exchange. This commission reflects Art Basel's commitment to bringing contemporary art into the public sphere.
Zero 10, a curated new initiative focused on art in the digital age and supported by OpenSea, will return for its second edition at Art Basel Hong Kong, following its debut at Art Basel Miami Beach this year. This initiative aims to steadfastly support and empower a rapidly evolving field of art creation and collecting, bringing together leading and emerging participants—including artists, studios, galleries, and digital innovators—within Art Basel's framework of global curatorial excellence and market access. More details will be announced in due course.
