About the artist

Li Heidi, born in Shenyang, China in 1997, studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art in the United States, received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London in 2020, and his Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting from the Royal College of Art, London in 2022. Drawing upon his personal growth and emotional experiences, Li Heidi has developed an ambiguous and unique symbolic language in his paintings, which often occupy the intersection of popular film culture, gender performance, and still life tradition. In his diverse and highly expressive sculptural, installation, and performance practices, the artist also continuously explores the diversity of his own inner gender and bodily experiences, challenging heterosexual hegemony while hinting at the instinct, authenticity, and freedom of pure desire.
