"The Art of Weighing the Weak – Wang Jingqiao Solo Exhibition" will officially open at the Aurora Museum of Art on July 18, 2026.

This exhibition, hosted by the Aurora Museum of Art, is titled "Mechanism and Balance," a work embodying Chinese philosophical concepts, and focuses on the artist.Wang Jingqiao's complete creative trajectory over twelve years is centered on the theme of "mechanism and balance".By connecting its concepts of emptiness, contradictory aesthetics, and life growth system, this exhibition presents its unique artistic methodology, cross-media and diverse creations, and stylistic evolution in all aspects, opening up a contemporary Eastern art perspective centered on balance, scale, original intention, and rebirth.

This exhibition features representative works from four core series, showcasing the artist's gradual and interconnected creative trajectory. These include the two classic series "Skywalk" and "Mechanical Balance," as well as the newly created series "Kalachakra" and "Yaocao."

The early "Skywalker" series used heavy and restrained dark colors as a base, combined with Chinese ink splashing and freehand brushstrokes, and layered color textures to break the fixed characteristics of women's paintings in the public's perception, and constructed a magnificent, profound, calm and self-possessed visual atmosphere.

Some works in this series pay homage to Zao Wou-Ki's Eastern abstract aesthetics, tracing the origins of Eastern art. Although their creative paths differ, they ultimately converge on the same spiritual core. The works take the Buddhist concept of "emptiness" as their creative core, interpreting the Eastern philosophy that all things have no inherent existence and that the true nature of the mind returns to its origin. The paintings have a restrained and profound charm, rooted in a deep foundation of Eastern culture, with a restrained spirit and a lingering aftertaste.

Weighing

The "Mechanism and Balance" series is Wang Jingqiao's culmination of his deep cultivation of Chinese philosophical art. The works draw on the Eastern wisdom of Go's celestial phenomena and the balance of the universe, and uphold the aesthetics of life that emphasizes the harmony of heaven and earth and the balance of advance and retreat. The works use regular circular symbols to build the framework of the picture, and then use free and unrestrained brushstrokes to break the constraints of the standard framework.

Order is the "balance," and freedom is the "opportunity." The two are mutually reinforcing and complementary, condensing the ancient Confucian philosophy of the Doctrine of the Mean and the balance of Yin and Yang in the universe into a small canvas, so that the painting has both rules and regulations, and is full of original vitality.

Kalachakra

The brand-new masterpiece "Kalachakra" is derived from the Buddhist Kalachakra Vajra and is an advanced creation that follows the "Dakini" and "Kalachakra" series.

From a macroscopic cosmic perspective, spacetime is not constant or absolute, but rather relatively symbiotic and cyclical; all things follow a predetermined order of rotation and change, while also generating infinite variables based on the wavelength of vibration. In the images, abstract diagrams condensed from ancient scriptures and symbols from cutting-edge physics formulas coexist and blend, bridging the boundaries between humanistic philosophy and cosmic physics.

Yaocao

"Yaocao" is taken from classical poetry and prose, and is an elegant name used by the ancients for medicinal herbs. Wang Jingqiao, who grew up in a family steeped in medicine, draws inspiration from the myriad things in nature, selecting Chinese herbs commonly used in clinical tumor treatment, preserving the original plant fiber texture through rubbings, and then adding artistic elements for a secondary creation.The neat grid pattern, which appears and disappears in the image, is inspired by the drawers of traditional Chinese medicine cabinets. Using herbs as a medium, it expresses people's beautiful expectations for joy, health, and peace, and achieves common empathy.

A twelve-year cycle is a time of sedimentation and artistic rebirth. Wang Jingqiao cultivates his true self through solitude, defines his standards through perseverance, traces the origins of all things in emptiness, seizes opportunities in contradictions, and grows freely in restraint.

Rooted in Eastern Buddhism, classical philosophy, and traditional culture, she integrates herbal humanities, cosmic time, and the balance of heaven and earth into her creations, breaking free from the constraints of Western abstract art to construct a unique Eastern abstract language. About the artist

Wang Jingqiao

Wang Jingqiao graduated from the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University with a major in Art History, holds a Master's degree in Arts Management from Edith Cowan University, Australia, a Master's degree in Oil Painting from Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, and a PhD in Art Design from the National University of Arts, Thailand. She currently lives and works in Shanghai.

In 2021, she published the book "The Dwelling of Beauty," and has participated in art exhibitions and academic exchanges in Europe, Japan, and China on numerous occasions as an artist and academic exchange scholar. Her works are collected by several private individuals and institutions. She has published two SCI papers and more than ten TCI Q1 papers. Her doctoral research was serialized in two international journals.
