On October 25, 2024, HANMO Art Center in Beijing's 798 Art District welcomed "Beijing Thoughts" - a solo exhibition by young artist Chen Yuanzhang, curated by Gong Yu. The exhibition displays 33 paintings by Chen Yuanzhang, all of which are his latest creations after he moved his studio to Beijing. The exhibition will last until November 3, 2024.

Artist Chen Yuanzhang was born in Huizhou in 1998. His studio "Source Cave" witnessed his immersion in the art of painting, creating nearly a thousand works, mostly depicting the various forms of life, and gradually comprehending the profound meaning of brush and ink. In 2022, he went to Beijing with his teacher and friend Lan Yun to jointly run "Lazy Source". Although he is not good at socializing, under the influence of many good teachers and friends, his vision and mind have been further broadened.

Chen Yuanzhang's artistic path is firm and persistent. He holds his pen like a cane, constantly moving forward and climbing, chasing his artistic dream. His exhibition experience includes the 2023 Lanyun Yuanzhang double exhibition "Mountains Beyond Mountains, People in the World", and the 2024 "Tanhua" and "A Glimpse of China" art joint exhibitions, until this "Shock-Beijing Thoughts" solo exhibition.

In the curatorial preface to "Shock: Beijing Thoughts", Gong Yu succinctly summarized Chen Yuanzhang's three-year artistic journey in Beijing with the word "shock". This word "shock" combines the three emotions of surprise, panic and surprise.

When Chen Yuanzhang first arrived in Beijing,I am amazed by the ecology and diverse creative forms of the Songzhuang artist community.;
Then, surrounded by many artists and works,He experienced confusion and panic, explore your own artistic direction;
Finally, in nearly a year, he found a unique way of "telling" through art.Immersed in the excitement and happiness of expression, this is his surprise.

Gong Yu mentioned in the preface that he and Chen Yuanzhang have known each other for a long time, from nephews to old friends, and he was both surprised and delighted to be able to curate Chen Yuanzhang's exhibition in Beijing. He hopes that this exhibition will be like a glimpse of a beautiful woman, leaving a deep impression on the audience.

Chen Yuanzhang's works show his extensive exploration and deep emotional expression in artistic creation. He skillfully uses oil and acrylic as two materials to explore different themes and concepts, creating works of various sizes from small paintings to large works. The time span of the works extends from 2021 to 2024, showing his continuous artistic practice and creative vitality in the past three years. Chen Yuanzhang's exploration of the emotional and psychological levels is particularly prominent, and he conveys a complex inner world through works such as "Anxiety" and "Resisting Death".

"Shock - Beijing Thoughts" is not only a display of the results of Chen Yuanzhang's artistic exploration, but also a testimony of his emotional exchange with the city of Beijing. Each work carries his deep understanding of this period of life and the projection of his personal emotions.
